Trying to find a nationally noted Greek community to write about this week was one of the most difficult tasks. Frustrated, confused, and put-down by the awful articles on more and more Greeks getting kicked off their campuses for hazing and unlawful acts made me realize exactly why Greek stereotypes are so terrible. I was so disappointed in some of the articles that I found about brothers and sisters doing horrible things to their new members and representing their national headquarters in a manner that seems unthinkable. Reading these dreadful articles after the amazing week I just experienced seemed like a slap in the face. So, after much thought about all the negatively I was reading, I’d like to dedicate this article to the wonderful Greek Community of CMU for the hearts and souls that should be nationally noted.
I can speak for everyone who participated in Greek week that it was an incredible experience and adventure. Raising money for Logan and his family felt great at the end of the week and listening to Dr. Lori Hart was refreshingly inspirational. Central Michigan University Greeks truly made a difference and I couldn’t be more proud to be apart of such an incredible organization.
When will all this negativity about Greeks change, has the media ruined the chances of all positive light on Greeks nation wide? What I do know and truly believe is that if each community nation wide puts their best foot forward and even does half of the amazing work CMU Greeks did last week, then these negative stereotypes can change. All it took was a little competition and young warrior named Logan to bring over a thousand wonderful members together to make a difference. Great work Central Michigan for an amazing week that deserves to be nationally noted.
